The purpose of this consultation is to heighten stakeholders awareness and understanding of the CARIFORUM-EU EPA and some of the obligations that member states have undertaken to meet, as well as to draw attention to some of the benefits and challenges which it obtains. On October 15, 2008, the EPA was formally signed in Bridgetown and, following the completion of the necessary domestic arrangements in the Caribbean and the European Union, the 29th of December 2008 was established as the start date for provisional application of the Agreement. It is envisaged that during the coming years, the EPA will facilitate economic restructuring and growth by helping Dominica and other CARIFORUM Countries to move towards more value-added economic activity and to develop greater capacity to compete internationally in the export of services, creative products and selected manufactured items. The fifteen signatory Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific (CARIFORUM) States to the EPA are the independent CARICOM Member States and the Dominican Republic. It is hoped that this consultation will form the basis for deepening engagement with agencies responsible for facilitating the implementation of the agreement as well as stakeholders. An EPA Unit has been established in the Division of Trade to coordinate implementation of the provisions of the agreement. Press Release Share 17 Views   no discussionslast_img
